Step 1:
The air filter is located in the engine compartment, on the driver's side, next to the battery.

Step 2:
Remove the upper coolant inlet hose (rubber hose) from under the battery cable on the driver's side. This prevents the hose from getting caught in the battery cable when moving the front adapter forward to avoid the filter housing. Disconnect the two metal clips located on top of the front air filter adapter.

Step 3:
Move the front adapter upwards past the lower alignment tab, then move it forward until it is detached from the air filter assembly.

Step 4:
Disconnect the two clips securing the rear adapter to the air filter housing. Completely remove the metal clips on the rear adapter; the coolant expansion tank can obstruct the clips when installing or removing the filter from the engine compartment. Simply wiggle the clips from side to side to remove them, but do not touch the metal tabs of the clips, as they are easily bent.

Step 5:
Lift the rear adapter upwards past the lower positioning tab, then move it towards the firewall to completely avoid the air filter assembly. Double-check that neither the front nor rear adapters are connected to the air filter.

Step 6:
Pull the air filter assembly straight up to remove it from the engine compartment. Two barbed connectors at the bottom of the air filter secure it to the mounting flange. Gently wiggle it from side to side to help remove it.

Step 7:
When installing a replacement air filter element, align the barbs on the filter element with the holes on the filter element mounting bracket and push it down firmly. When pushing it down, the front and rear adapters must maintain a certain distance from the filter element housing. Note that this filter element is directional; the airflow direction is molded to the top of the filter element housing.

Step 8:
Reposition the front and rear adapters, align the lower tabs with the corresponding slots on the filter housing, and then press down to secure the metal clips. Reconnect all other disassembled parts and reposition the rubber inlet hose under the battery cables.
