2003-2007 6.0L Ford Powerstroke Diesel Fuel Filter Replaces FD4616

This is the installation process for the FI-F-7-01: 2003-2007 6.0L Ford Powerstroke Diesel Fuel Filter Replaces FD4616,provided for your reference during installation.

Step 1:
Place the drain pan under the HFCM module on the driver's side of the chassis frame.

Step 2:
Use a 6mm Allen wrench to unscrew the yellow or metal drain plug of the fuel-water separator.​

Step 3:
Completely drain the water and diesel fuel from the module. Check the O-ring on the drain plug for damage, clean it, and then reinstall and tighten it.

Step 4:
Use a 36mm socket wrench to unscrew the main fuel filter cap of the HFCM module.

Step 5:
The fuel filter is usually removed with the fuel tank cap; if it cannot be removed, it will need to be removed manually. You may need to separate the fuel filter from the fuel tank cap to remove them together from the frame crossbeams.

Step 6:
Remove the old black rubber O-ring from the fuel filter cap and dispose of the old filter element properly. Install the new O-ring precisely into the sealing groove of the large end cap, ensuring it is not twisted.

Step 7:
Press the new main filter element with the snap-fit into the end cap until you hear a "click," ensuring the filter element is securely locked in place.

Step 8:
Push the end cap with the new filter element horizontally into the HFCM module channel. First, hand-tighten the threads clockwise, ensuring there is no misalignment or stripping.

Step 9:
Using a 36mm socket and torque wrench, tighten the end cap to the official standard torque: 19 ft-lbs / 26 Nm.

Step 10:
Locate the auxiliary fuel filter, usually located on the top of the engine compartment, near the left side of the oil filter housing.

Step 11:
Using a 24mm hex socket and a manual ratchet wrench, unscrew the plastic fuel filter cap on the top of the engine compartment.

Step 12:
Slowly lift the top cap upwards; the old auxiliary filter element will come out with it. Remove the old auxiliary filter element from the top cap and remove the old black O-ring at the base of the top cap threads.

Step 13:
Inspect the inside of the engine compartment filter housing. If there is mud or sediment at the bottom, wipe it clean with a lint-free cloth.

Step 14:
Use the thinner, brand-new black O-ring from a clean diesel lubrication kit. Securely install the new O-ring into the threaded sealing groove at the base of the top cover.

Step 15:
Insert the new auxiliary filter element vertically into the engine compartment filter housing and press down firmly to lock it into the locating hole at the bottom. Replace the top cover, first hand-tightening it clockwise to ensure the plastic threads are aligned correctly.

Step 16:
Using a 24mm socket and torque wrench, tighten the top cover to the official standard torque: 10 ft-lbs / 14 Nm, or until the metal limit mark on the top cover aligns. Do not overtighten, as this may cause the top cover to burst.

Step 17:
Turn the key to the "Run" position (as if starting the glow plug), hold for 30 seconds, then turn it back to the "Off" position. Repeat this step at least 3 times to fill the fuel system before starting.
