Step 1:
The main fuel filter is located within the horizontal fuel conditioning module (HFCM) inside the driver's side frame longitudinal beams, between the fuel tank and the engine.

Step 2:
The HFCM includes the main fuel filter and a fuel-water separator. Place the container under the drain valve and open the valve 1/4 turn (yellow handle) to drain the fuel-water separator.

Step 3:
To prevent fuel spillage, we strongly recommend installing a 1/4-inch fuel line at the fuel-water separator's drain valve; this allows you to place the container on the ground without lifting it into the air. Completely drain the fuel-water separator and properly dispose of any collected fuel.

Step 4:
Use a 36mm socket wrench to remove the HFCM fuel filter.

Step 5:
Remove the fuel filter from the filter cap and install a new fuel filter and fuel filter O-ring.

Step 6:
Apply a thin layer of clean engine oil to the new O-ring and then reinstall the filter/cap assembly. The torque is 25 Nm (approximately 19 ft-lbs); do not overtighten, otherwise the plastic cap may break.

Step 8:
Use a 24 mm socket to remove the auxiliary fuel filter located on the right side of the oil filter housing. Use a syringe, suction hose, or squeegee to remove any remaining fuel from the fuel bowl.

Step 10:
Then install the new fuel filter. The clip on top of the filter will "click" into the retaining slot on the fuel filter cap.

Step 11:
Reinstall the fuel filter into the housing; the torque is 14 Nm (approximately 125 ft-lbs).

Step 12:
Before starting the engine, turn the key to the "Run" position (as you would when starting a glow plug), pausing for 10-20 seconds at a time, repeating 3-5 times; this helps the fuel filter housing fill with fuel. After starting the engine, check for leaks.
