Step 1:
Locate the engine oil drain plug and oil filter. The drain plug is located near the bottom of the engine oil pan, pointing towards the rear of the vehicle. The oil filter is located near the passenger side of the engine oil pan.

Step 2:
Place a suitable container under the engine oil pan to collect the drained oil. Remove the drain plug from the engine oil pan (using a 16mm socket wrench or open-end wrench) to allow the engine oil to drain.
Note that the 2011 model year engine uses a plastic lower oil pan and a 1/4-turn drain plug, which is different from the one shown in the picture.

Step 3:
Locate the oil filler cap on top of the engine, near the driver's side, near the dipstick and dipstick tube. Loosen the engine oil filler cap to allow oil to drain freely from the oil pan (no need to remove the cap, just loosen it to allow crankcase ventilation).

Step 4:
Remove the oil filter by turning it counterclockwise. Use an oil filter wrench if necessary. Clean the engine oil filter adapter housing/flange with a clean, lint-free cloth.
Note: If the gasket in the filter adapter has separated from the filter and is stuck to the adapter housing, be sure to remove it before installing the new oil filter.

Step 5:
Prefill the new oil filter and lubricate the gasket with clean engine oil. Prefilling with oil prevents complete dry starts, which can cause unnecessary wear due to prolonged dry starts. Do not overfill with oil.

Step 6:
Securely install the new oil filter into the oil filter adapter housing. Remove any spilled new or old oil to facilitate leak detection.

Step 7:
Carefully inspect the condition of the engine oil drain plug, ensuring the threads are undamaged and the O-ring is intact. Clean the drain plug with a lint-free cloth. Drain the oil completely before installing the oil drain plug. If the O-ring is flat or torn, replace the drain plug.

Step 8:
Using a clean funnel, add 13 quarts (minus the amount of oil already added to the engine oil filter) of new engine oil through the oil filler cap. After adding the oil, reinstall the engine oil filler cap. Check the drain plug for leaks.

Remove the oil level indicator (dip) from the tube, wipe it clean with a lint-free cloth, then fully reinsert it and remove it again. Confirm that the oil level is correct.
