I just noticed my hot-side silicone intercooler boots are completely soaked in oil sludge on my 2015 LML Duramax. After digging around the forum, it looks like the factory positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system dumps gross oily mist straight into the turbo inlet, which then coats the inside of the entire intercooler system and rots the rubber boots from the inside out.
Half the guys on here swear by a full PCV reroute kit that vents it out to the frame rail, while the other half say to run a high-end oil catch can to stay legal. What setup is actually better for keeping the intake clean without smelling like a 1980s tractor at stoplights? Let me know what you guys are running.
