The $10,000 "Grenade": Has your CP4 started showering your injectors with metal? (Check this now!)

"We’ve all heard the horror stories, but I never thought I’d be 'that guy.'

Last weekend, my 2016 F-350 started throwing low-pressure codes. I pulled the Volume Control Valve (the one on top of the CP4 pump) just to be safe. My heart sank. The screen was covered in what looked like silver glitter.

For those who don't know: When the CP4 pump fails, it grinds itself into metal dust and sends that 'glitter' straight into your injectors, fuel rails, and lines. The dealership quote? $11,400 for a full fuel system replacement.

Has anyone else checked their FCV recently? If you see even ONE flake of metal, you are on borrowed time.

I’m currently debating: Do I do a full CP3 conversion, or is the Bypass Kit (Disaster Prevention Kit) enough to save the rest of the system if the pump finally explodes? I’ve heard the bypass kit reroutes that metal back to the tank/filter instead of the injectors.

Drop your photos below if you’ve inspected your pump. Let’s see who’s running 'clean' and who’s got a ticking time bomb."

TruckTok Support:
"Seeing those metal flakes is every Powerstroke owner's worst nightmare. The reality is that US diesel fuel lacks the lubricity these Bosch CP4 pumps were designed for.

For anyone looking to prevent this $10k disaster, a Disaster Prevention (Bypass) Kit is the cheapest insurance you can buy. It won't stop the pump from failing, but it WILL save your injectors and rails by rerouting the debris.

We have the Gen 2.1 Bypass Kits in stock for all 2011-2019 6.7L models. They feature the upgraded billet high-flow distribution block.
