The 6.7L Turbo Debate: Is the GT32 really a "Time Bomb" compared to the GT37? (My 150k Mile Experience)

"I’ve seen a lot of back-and-forth on the groups lately, and I think it’s time we have a real talk about the 6.7L turbos.

I previously owned a 2013 F-250 (Generation 1 turbo, the dual-compressor GT32) and now I’m dailying a 2018 High Output. I’ll be honest: my 2013 blew its turbo at 95k miles while hauling a 12k trailer through the Rockies. We all know those ceramic bearings in the early models didn't handle heat well.

However, even with the 2015+ GT37 upgrade (the larger single compressor), I’m still seeing high EGTs (Exhaust Gas Temperatures) when I’m pushing it.

My question for the group:

  1. For those with 2011-2014 trucks: Did you swap to a 2015+ retro-fit kit, or are you still "praying" every time you tow?
  2. For the 2017+ guys: Are you seeing lower temps after a weight loss (Delete)?
Personally, I think the turbo isn't the problem—it's the backpressure from the factory emissions choking the life out of these engines. I finally pulled the trigger on a full flow setup last month, and the difference in turbo lag is insane."
