Using a 13mm wrench or socket, remove the bolt next to the tailgate pivot. Use the bolt removed in the previous step to install the shock absorber mounting plate.

Disconnect the cable from the cable bolt. Using a 13mm wrench/socket, remove the cable bolt.
Install the stud post and large washer into the position where the cable bolt was removed. Adhesive can be applied to the stud post before installation; attach the fully threaded end to the truck. Tighten with a 13mm wrench.
We provide polyester film to prevent parts from sliding on the truck bed and tailgate. Apply the polyester film to the truck bed and tailgate, especially where the tailgate auxiliary components will be close during opening/closing. The arrows in the diagram indicate where to install the polyester film. The vehicle shown in the diagram is only an example of polyester film installation. Your vehicle may differ from the one shown in the diagram.
Slip the tailgate cable onto the stud post. Install the shock absorber onto the bottom bracket and top bracket. Install washers and nylon lock nuts on the top post. Install nylon lock nuts on the mounting plate studs.
