What are the benefits of adding a Lift Pump to a stock LMM Duramax?

I know the Duramax doesn't come with a factory lift pump, but how necessary is it if I’m not running a hot tune? Does it actually help the CP3 pump last longer, or is it just another expensive part that can fail?

The CP3 has to work hard to suck fuel all the way from the tank. A lift pump like an AirDog or FASS removes air and supplies constant pressure. WHAT this does is take the stress off the CP3 and ensures your injectors stay lubricated with air-free fuel. It's one of the best "longevity" mods you can do.

What people don't realize is that the CP3 pump is a "suction" style pump on the LMM. It has to work incredibly hard to pull fuel all the way from the tank through the filter. How a lift pump helps is by taking that workload off the CP3 and providing it with a constant, positive pressure of about 8-10 PSI. Even on a stock tune, this reduces the wear and tear on your expensive high-pressure pump. Think of it as a heart transplant for your fuel system—it makes everything downstream live a lot longer.
