What just happened to my truck?! (Is this the dreaded Death Wobble?

I’m still shaking as I type this. I was doing about 70 MPH on the highway today in my 2021 F-250 (completely stock, 40k miles). I hit a small expansion joint on a bridge and the entire front end of the truck started vibrating so violently I thought the wheels were going to fly off. I had to almost come to a complete stop in the middle of traffic to get it to quit.

WHAT exactly causes an $80k truck to do this? Is it a broken part, or is HOW I’m driving it? I’ve heard people talk about 'Death Wobble' before but I thought it was only for old, beat-up Jeeps. HOW do I even start fixing this? I’m honestly afraid to take it back on the highway. Any advice on WHAT to check first would be a lifesaver.

Welcome to the club. My 2019 did the same thing at 35k miles. To answer your question about what to check first: it’s the steering stabilizer. Ford’s OEM stabilizer is notoriously weak, especially if you’ve upgraded to larger tires.

However, don't just replace the stabilizer and call it a day. That just masks the issue. How I fixed mine permanently was by upgrading to a heavy-duty adjustable track bar and a dual-stabilizer setup. If the truck is stock and you’re still under warranty, Ford has an extended coverage program for the steering damper, but honestly, the aftermarket stuff is so much better if you never want to feel that shaking again.
