Why "saving money" on fuel filters is the fastest way to kill your 6.7L Powerstroke.

I learned a very expensive lesson this week, and I’m posting this so none of you make the same mistake. I’ve always been religious about oil changes, but I thought I could stretch my fuel filters to 25k miles since I only buy "top-tier" diesel. Big mistake.

Last Tuesday, my truck started bucking under load and threw a "Low Fuel Pressure" code. When we pulled the lower frame-mounted filter, it was collapsed and filled with a thick, waxy slime. My mechanic told me I was lucky the CP4 didn't starve and seize right there. The CP4 depends entirely on fuel for lubrication—if that flow is restricted, it’s metal-on-metal. Now I'm looking at a $2,000 bill just for a deep system flush and new sensors. Don't be like me. Change BOTH filters every 15k miles, or you'll be paying the "lazy tax" in a massive way.

Glad she's back on the road, but you should seriously look into a Disaster Prevention Kit (DPK) now. Since you already spent $2k on a flush, another few hundred for a bypass kit is the best insurance policy you can buy for a 6.7L. It won't stop the pump from failing if it starves again, but it will save your injectors and rails by rerouting the debris.
